Questions from the trail
The practical details
From subscriptions to story ownership, here is how the project works.
What exactly is Cache Mail?
Cache Mail is a community-powered geocaching postcard subscription. Every month, we select a photograph and story submitted by a geocacher and turn it into a physical postcard.
How many postcards will I receive?
You’ll receive one postcard each month for a total of 12 postcards during your annual subscription.
How much does it cost?
Cache Mail costs $15 per year. Payment and subscription management are handled securely through Square.
Can anyone submit a story?
Yes. You don’t have to be a subscriber. Funny DNFs, milestone finds, beautiful places, clever hides, road trips, friendships, mishaps, and ordinary caching moments are all welcome.
Does submitting guarantee publication?
No. Submissions are reviewed and selected for future issues. If your story is chosen, we’ll contact you before it is published.
Will you edit my story?
Cache Mail may lightly edit selected stories for spelling, grammar, clarity, formatting, or length while preserving the contributor’s voice.
Do contributors keep ownership?
Yes. Contributors keep ownership of their original photograph and story while granting Cache Mail permission to reproduce and share selected work under the submission terms.
Do I need a Cache Mail account?
No. The Cache Mail website does not require an account. Square handles the subscription checkout, and anyone can submit a story.
About the project
A paper archive of the geocaching community.
Cache Mail is not about finding only the world’s most impressive caches. It documents the small adventures, strange encounters, beautiful places, friendships, ridiculous moments, and memories created along the way.
The postcard stays intentionally simple so the submitted photograph remains the star and the physical copy remains the primary experience.
